Training Implementation: Building Capacity for Inclusive STEM Education
As a vital part of our national research project, capacity-building through structured training was designed to ensure that the technological innovations—such as tactile STEM materials, the Equation Format Converter (EFC), 3D models, and the STEM Kit—are effectively utilized across educational levels. The trainings were divided into three key cohorts:
Cohort 1: Lecturers and Academic Instructors (Higher Education)
This cohort focused on empowering STEM lecturers from colleges of education, polytechnics, and universities to:
- Understand the principles of inclusive education for blind and visually impaired (BVI) students.
- Integrate tactile diagrams, EFC software, and the STEM Kit into teaching.
- Engage in the co-creation and feedback process for improving the accessibility of academic content.
- Provide informed supervision and mentoring to students with visual impairments.
Impact: Over 50 lecturers across Nigeria were trained, enabling direct influence on curriculum delivery and research support for BVI learners.
